The Tennessee Valley Authority is requesting residents and businesses to conserve electricity on Thursday and Friday.
Union City Energy Authority CEO Kyle Ross said due to forecasts for extremely low temperatures, TVA is seeking to reduce a potential strain on the power grid.
Specifically from 6:00 until 10:00 in the morning both days, TVA is requesting homeowners and businesses to set their thermostats from 65-to-68 degrees.
During the period, they are asking for the postponement of using the clothes dryer, dishwasher and stove.
Another savings comes from turning off non-essential appliances and lights during peak time, with businesses asked to turn off lights and office equipment when not in use.
