Tennessee Governor Bill Lee says he will call for the General Assembly to convene a special session.
The session will take place on Monday, January 27th to pass the Education Freedom Act, and to introduce a disaster relief legislative package for Hurricane Helene recovery.
A joint statement was released from Governor Lee, Lt. Governor Randy McNally, along with House Speaker Cameron Sexton and Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson.
The statement said the majority of Tennesseans, regardless of political affiliation, have made it clear of their choice for empowering parents with school choice.
The Education Freedom Act states every Tennessee child deserves to attend the school that best fits their unique needs, regardless of income or zip code.
The bill also invests in public schools with teacher bonuses, increased K-thru-12 facilities funding, and the assurance that state funding will never decrease due to disenrollment.
