Two more wins highlighted 8th Grade Night for Union City Middle School basketball.

School Communications Director Mike Hutchens said officials recognized players and cheerleaders at halftime of games won by the Tornadoes teams Thursday against Three Oaks – 40-33 in the girls’ and 53-29 on the boys’ side.

The contests were the final home games of the season for the UC squads. The Tornadoes will play four more doubleheaders on the road before participating in their respective conference tournaments in January.

Union City improved its girls’ record to 11-4, with the boys now sporting a sparkling 14-1 mark.

In Thursday’s opener, the Lady Twisters held slim leads after one (11-10) and at halftime (20-18).

McKinley Dean scored 10 points, including four big free throws in the fourth period to lead UC. Aubrii Ross had nine, while Annie Beth Cruce and Kiki Sneed pitched in six markers apiece.

The Tornado boys racked up another impressive win in the nightcap, getting 11 points from Preston Creswell and nine more from Kaden Robinson in a balanced effort.

Union City was up by double digits (21-11) at the intermission, then outscored the visitors 32-18 after the break to pull away.

Union City plays at Milan on Monday and at Gibson County on Thursday of next week.
