The Tennessee Department of Transportation will be assisting motorists traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Starting today on Wednesday, all construction related lane closures will be halted due to anticipation of higher traffic volume.

The halt in lane closures will continue until 6:00 on Monday morning.

TDOT Commissioner Butch Eley said Thanksgiving is typically the most traveled holiday of the year, and the halting of lane closures will help alleviate traffic congestion.

Triple-A is predicting 1.8 million residents will take a road trip during the holiday period, which is a slight increase over last year’s numbers.
