Thunderbolt Radio Hosting 50th Anniversary Open House

open-house-2

Thunderbolt Radio will be hosting an open house today to celebrate the 50th anniversary of KYTN 104.9 and 105.7 The Quake.

KYTN was Union City’s first FM radio station and began broadcasting in 1974 and was known as WALR-FM under Perkins Broadcasting Company.

Thunderbolt President Paul Tinkle remembers what the station was like in 74.

The station was later sold to Reelfoot Broadcasting, and then Twin States, who added WQAK-FM. Thunderbolt Radio acquired KYTN and WQAK in December of 2005 from Twin States Broadcasting and built a new studio.

The open house will be held at our studio at 223 Westgate Drive in Union City at 4. Everyone is welcome to stop by.
