Parole officers with the Tennessee Department of Correction will conduct a Halloween campaign targeting sex offenders.
“Operation Blackout” is an annual statewide event that adds an extra layer of protection to Tennessee communities.
On Halloween night, probation parole officers will make visits to the homes of sex offenders whose convictions involved children.
Officers will be verifying compliance with restrictions that includes porch lights off and doors closed, wearing costumes, answering the door for trick-or-treaters and distributing candy to any children.
The sex offenders are also prohibited from visiting haunted houses, corn mazes, hayrides or any function where children are gathered, including a private residence.
Plans call for Department of Correction officers to visit the homes of several hundred high-risk sex offenders on Halloween night.
