Today is Patriot Day in the United States.

The day is not a federal holiday, but a day to remember the 2,977 victims of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centers in 2001.

President George W. Bush first proclaimed September 14th of 2001 as a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance of Victims.

A bill was later introduced in the United States House of Representatives, which made September 11th of 2002 as the first Patriot Day.

President Barack Obama, Donald Trump and Joe Biden have all followed with executive orders proclaiming September 11th as Patriot Day.

Flags across the nation are requested to be lowered to half staff in remembrance of the day.
