Following the announcement of specific store closings, Big Lots has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Store officials said they are focused on improving sales and profitability since the COVID-19 pandemic, but inflation and high interest rates have made business as usual very difficult.

The July and August announcement of approximately 300 store closures did include the location in Union City.

Big Lots has now laid out plans to close an additional 250 stores by mid-January, which will represent 40-percent of the total company locations.

Locally, Big Lots currently has stores in Dyersburg, Mayfield, Murray and Paducah.
