Tyson Foods Incorporated has reported one of its strongest earning quarters to date, following difficult market conditions that forced layoffs and plant closures.

Agriculture Dive said chicken profits in the third quarter reached the highest point in the past eight years.

Tyson Foods CEO Donnie King called the three month period a “remarkable turnaround”, with the operating income of $491 million dollars up 174-percent over last year.

Along with lower feed costs, King said the closing or selling of a number of plants benefited the operation.

The latest numbers showed chicken income soared to $307 million dollars during the quarter, which is up from a loss of $63 million dollars last year.

Tyson Foods Incorporated has operations in Obion County.
