At the Weakley County Commission Board meeting last night

Weakley County Commission members voted unanimously to approve a $1.37 tax rate for the new fiscal year.

The commission also agreed upon a number of appointments. However, the commission did not have an appointment for District 6 Constable.

Commissioner Brian Donavant adjusted his time of resignation, which will allow the commission to make an appointment for the unexpired term. With the adjustment, a new commissioner will serve for two years. Commissioner Donavant announced his resignation during the last board meeting.

Also during the meeting, some members shared their thoughts about the future projects that will have to be funded and a likely call for more revenue.

Commissioner Jimmy Westbrook told Thunderbolt News that teacher salaries and roads will have to be looked at in the upcoming fiscal year…

Among projects that will be have to be reviewed in the near future include Martin Middle and Dresden High school. Both schools are 52 years old years…

And Commissioner Westbrook shared his thoughts on a new leader for Weakley County as the Mayor’s race will be decided August 1st…

County Mayor Pro-tem Dennis Doster is filling in until the next county mayor is elected and sworn in.
