Union City saw its 2024 softball season end with a tough 10-9 loss at Halls in the Region 7A semifinals Monday evening.

The Lady Tornadoes ended their year with a 12-16 record after a second-place finish in the District 14 regular season and tournament.

School Communications Director Mike Hutchens said Union City had leads of 4-0 and 9-4 in Monday’s game before the Lady Tigers rallied with six runs in their final three at-bats. The Twister girls put two runners in scoring position in the top of the seventh but could not chase either home.

Addison Carr had a two-run triple to highlight a five-run Union City fourth and break a 4-all tie. Carr went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and reached base in all four of her at-bats.

Emmaline Qualls got aboard in each of her five trips to the plate with two singles and three walks. She scored three times. Marlee Theobald, Mattie Smith, and Kylie Mayes had two knocks each for the Lady Tornadoes, who outhit Halls 14-13.

Theobald and Mayes each doubled, the former scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs. Smith had three ribbies, two of those in the second inning. Theobald and Carr had RBIs in the first when Union City took an immediate 2-0 lead.

Smith went the distance in the circle for the Twisters.

The contest was the last in a Union City uniform for seniors Qualls, Theobald, and Caty Jo Hoffman.
