The Union City Fire Department responded to a rural residential fire on Saturday afternoon.

Fire Department reports said firefighters were called to 951 West Shawtown Road just before 4:30.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke at the site, with flames coming through a window and roof ridge.

Members of the Hornbeak and Samburg Volunteer Fire Departments also assisted with aid in fighting the fire.

After being unaware if anyone was inside the structure, reports said firefighters were able to make entry, with two dogs found deceased.

The occupant of the home arrived at the scene a short time later.

Reports said the fire appeared to have started in a bedroom, with firefighters on the scene for approximately two hours.
