Farmers in Obion County have had to dodge rains  and river flooding during this year’s spring planting.

Producers have been able to get back in the fields recently, following heavy amounts of rain in early April.

Going into the final days of the month, Agriculture Extension Director Garrett McDaniel said progress in planting has depended on the location of the farm land.(AUDIO)

During dry times, McDaniel was asked if farmers were trying to plant corn or soybeans.(AUDIO)

McDaniel said a recent trend by farmers has been to plant early soybeans.

The Extension Director said the crop has a high tolerance for both temperature and moisture, and has shown to have good yields with early planting.
