Tennessee 8th District U.S. Congressman David Kustoff has helped introduce legislation to protect Supreme Court Justices.

Congressman Kustoff, along with Michael McCaul and Brandon Gill of Texas, introduced the Protecting Our Supreme Court Justices Act in the House of Representatives.

The legislation will increase the maximum term of imprisonment for those who attempt to intimidate and influence the decision-making process of a Supreme Court Justice from one year to five years.

Congressman Kustoff said anyone who intimidates or threatens a Supreme Court Justice should face severe consequences under the law.

As a former United States Attorney, the Shelby County Republican said he believed it was essential to uphold the sanctity of the judicial system and protect Supreme Court Justices from outside influence.

A companion bill was also introduced in the Senate, with Tennessee’s Marsha Blackburn being one of five sponsors.
