National Weather Service Damage Surveys on Selmer and Ballard/McCracken County Tornadoes

Damage survey’s have been conducted on tornadoes that formed during Wednesday’s severe thunderstorm outbreak.

The preliminary damage survey’s were conducted by the National Weather Service in Memphis and Paducah.

The Weather Service in Memphis said a preliminary survey rated the tornado that struck Selmer as an EF-3.

The estimated peak winds from the tornado was placed at 160 miles-per-hour.

One of the survey’s conducted by the National Weather Service in Paducah was for a tornado that moved from Ballard County into McCracken County.

The preliminary survey rated the twister as an EF-2, with possible winds of 111 to 135 miles-per-hour.

Reports said the tornado traveled just over 19 miles in a 16 minute period of time.

The National Weather Service has temporarily suspended tornado surveys due to ongoing storms and the safety of survey teams.
