The Union City girls’ tennis team brought home the top prize from the Jackson Invitational Friday.
School Communications Director Mike Hutchens said the Lady Tornadoes won all three of their matches in the Gold Varsity Division, beating Jackson Christian School, St. Mary’s, and then avenging an earlier loss to Trinity Christian Academy with a victory over the Lions in the championship round.
Union City improved to 8-2 with the stellar effort.
Due to the threat of rain on Saturday, the two-day tourney was condensed into one marathon day on Friday. All matches before the finals were played to a set of four.
The boys went 1-2 in the competition, beating Brighton in the final round. The Lady Twister jayvee team won one of four matches.
Union City is scheduled to play at USJ on Tuesday.
