measles-3-2

The Tennessee Department of Health has reported the first case of measles in the state for 2025.

Reports indicate the infected resident is in Middle Tennessee and the source of the infection is being investigated.

Officials with the Department of Health say the individual became infected with measles in early March and is recovering at home.

Public health officials are working to identify other locations and persons potentially exposed to the virus.

There is currently an ongoing, national measles outbreak involving over 300 cases in eleven states.

Two people have died during the outbreak.

Measles is highly infectious and spreads easily through the air when an infected person talks, coughs or sneezes.

Measles is a red spotty rash that begins on the face and spreads over the body, causing fever, headache, a cough and congestion.
