A public meeting was held Monday morning concerning the possibility of establishing a taxing district for ambulance service in Fulton County.

The meeting of over one hour was held in advance of the County Magistrate meeting in Hickman.

County Judge-Executive Jim Martin started the conversation with a history of the ambulance service.(AUDIO)

Judge Martin said the service was costing about $1.9 million dollars per year, with a million dollar gap between operating costs and revenue.

The County Judge then explained the proposal of the property tax.(AUDIO)

Judge Martin said the tax proposal is being initiated after the volunteer payment by residents on their water bill was not generating adequate funds.

Following the failure to get assistance from the state legislature, Judge Martin said the taxing district was the only viable option to continue the service.(AUDIO)

County Magistrates will continue their discussion into establishing the tax in upcoming meetings.
