The Tennessee legislature has passed a new bill that bans the use of cellphones in classrooms across the state.

The law requires school districts to come up with their own policies to handle the elimination of phones from the classroom.

Weakley County Schools Director Jeff Cupples told Thunderbolt News that the new bill doesn’t change much for local schools since they already ban the use of phones in class.

The bill is now awaiting a signature from Governor Bill Lee and will go into effect for the 2025-26 school year.
