During the Weakley County Public Safety meeting on Tuesday, County Commissioner James Washburn gave an update on the Ned Ray McWherter National Guard Armory in Dresden.
During the meeting, Weakley County Mayor Dale Hutcherson explained that the decision to close the armory was made by the federal government, not city or county officials.
Both Dresden and Weakley County have interest in buying the building. Different uses for it have been tossed around such as a storm shelter, EMA office, Office of Aging, or more room for archives.
The National Guard will be out of the armory by the end of March.
