Several Union City High School and Middle School band students represented the program well after being selected to participate in a handful of regional honor band performances over the past few weeks.
School Communications Director Mike Hutchens said three students from the middle school and five more from the high school carried the Purple People banner at the UTM Honor Band Festival hosted by the UTM Music Department late last month.
Those students were selected to perform against others from Tennessee and Kentucky.
Hadlee Duncan, Wes Worrell, and Chloe Baumgardner represented the Middle School in the festival, while Trey Jackson, Katie Goletto, Amir Peat, Phoebe Coleman, and Landon McAdams were picked to participate from Union City High School.
Two students from the middle school and one from the high school participated in the prestigious All-West Conference/Clinic in Memphis earlier this month.
Middle school members Wes Worrell and Chloe Baumgardner and high school member Haylee Record auditioned in January, along with some of the finest musicians in West Tennessee.
The conference was held at the Renasant Convention Center, and concerts were held at the beautiful Cannon Center in Memphis.
Veteran Union City band director Jason Deem recognized his standout members.
“These students went above and beyond to improve themselves as musicians. The extra time each of them put in to participate in these ensembles improves every one of our ensembles here in Union City. Each of these students represented Union City Schools in an outstanding way, and I am proud of all of them for their accomplishments.”
