With still several weeks remaining in the 2024-25 school year, Union City Director of Schools Wes Kennedy is already putting pieces into place for 2025-26.
Kennedy has tabbed Middle School Principal Lance Morgan as the new Director of Teaching and Learning, beginning July 1. Morgan will replace longtime Union City Schools educator/administrator Rene Flood, who is retiring from that position at the end of the current school year.
Current Middle School Vice Principal Cole McAdams will be elevated to the principal spot for 2025-26, while 8th grade ELA teacher Allison Kail will become the new Vice Principal at Union City Middle.
Additionally, Courtney Dozier will assume the critical role as administrative assistant to Kennedy and the school board with the retirement of Camille Mobbs at the end of the current school year.
Kennedy announced the moves to faculty and staff this week, citing the desire to “continue continuity” within the system.
“We’re blessed to have options of high quality and capable people when there are openings in our system,” the top administrator said. “I have great confidence in Mr. Morgan, Mr. McAdams, and Mrs. Kail and their abilities to continue and build on the great things we have going on in our system.
“I appreciate Mrs. Flood and what she’s given to Union City Schools in a variety of roles in a long and distinguished career. Be it as a teacher, an assistant principal, a principal, or in her recent role, she’s given her all to the Union City School System.
Kennedy also had glowing words of praise for Mrs. Mobbs.
“Camille has been my right arm and has long been a valuable employee of Union City Schools. The role she’s played in our central office and to me personally could never be understated,” he said.
Morgan will move into his new role as DTL after serving as Principal since 2017. Before that, he taught math at Union City High School for 13 years and was an adjunct professor at UT Martin.
Morgan will step into a position held by Flood since 2019. Mrs. Flood will officially retire from a long and distinguished 42-year career that saw her serve in a variety of roles, from teacher to assistant principal to Principal at Union City Elementary, before moving to the board office.
McAdams will move up to the lead administrator role at UCMS after serving as Vice Principal since 2022. He has 12 years of experience in the education business overall and will remain as the head high school baseball coach for the foreseeable future.
Mrs. Kail, a UCHS alumnus, has been a highly-regarded teacher and mentor in her 21 years in education – the last five in the Union City System. She has been vital in helping the Middle School faculty achieve its current Level 5 status and an “A” on the state accountability report card.
Mrs. Dozier recently joined the UC Schools family after working for Union City Insurance since 2018 and will fill a critical role with the retirement of Mrs. Mobbs at the end of the current school year.
For the past 18 years, Mobbs has served as a close and trusted aide to the UC Schools’ director – filling a variety of roles and responsibilities and lending her expertise to both administration and school staff.
