The City of Union City has moved another step closer to establishing packaged liquor stores.
During this week’s City Council meeting, board members considered the second and final reading of an Ordinance, which allows package liquor stores to operate in designated areas of the city limits.
The action of the City Council came after Union City residents voted 60-percent in favor of a referendum establishing the retail locations.
The second reading passed by a vote of 5-to-1, with Councilman Patrick Smith casting the “no” vote.
Following the passage, City Manager Johnny McTurner said the city would have to wait ten days before they could begin accepting applications to establish liquor store locations.
