An illegal alien was arrested on federal charges after attempting to purchase a gun in Paducah.
West Kentucky Star said a federal criminal complaint and arrest warrant were issued in Paducah federal court against a 25 year old Manuel Antonio Xante-Ajanel of Guatemala.
The arrest warrant issued charges of aggravated identity theft, making a false statement during a firearm purchase and being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm.
The charges stem from an attempt to purchase a firearm from Academy Sports using fraudulent identification belonging to another person.
During a search warrant at the individuals residence in Mayfield, police seized numerous fraudulent identification documents, with an additional search warrant revealing a loaded .9-milimeter handgun in Xante-Ajanel’s vehicle.
The Guatemala citizen is now in state custody and faces a sentence of two-to-twelve years in prison if convicted.
Homeland Security Investigations verified that Xante-Ajanel entered the United States illegally.
