Deputies with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office saved the life of a man swept away by flood waters.
On Tuesday, officers responded to Bonds Road for a vehicle stuck in floodwaters.
At the scene, officers were informed the driver, identified as Thomas Gonzales, had been swept away and was hanging on to a tree.
One of the deputies located a residence nearby that had a small boat in the yard.
Sheriff’s reports said the resident volunteered to pull the boat to the flood scene, with the two deputies then paddling to rescue Gonzales.
Due to the depth of the water, deputies were unable to pull Gonzales into the boat, but held on to him until reaching shallow water.
The Sheriff’s report said Gonzales was taken to a local hospital for evaluation after being in the water for over thirty-minutes.
