Tennessee U.S. Senator’s Bill Hagerty and Marsha Blackburn have expressed their support for women’s professional basketball in Nashville.
Hagerty and Blackburn joined together to send a letter to Women’s National Basketball Association Commissioner Cathy Engelbert.
In the letter, the U.S. Senator’s offered support for Nashville’s bid to expand the WNBA with a Tennessee franchise.
If accepted to the league, the Nashville team would be named the “Tennessee Summitt” in honor of Pat Summitt.
In the letter of support for a franchise, the Senator’s called Nashville a cultural Mecca, offering music, food and sports, while also serving as a top global travel destination.
The team would play their games at Bridgestone Arena, with investors already committed to building a state-of-the-art practice facility in Nashville.
