Kentucky’s First District State Representative has sponsored a bill to drop the age to acquire a drivers permit.

Representative Steven Rudy presented the bill during a meeting of the House Transportation Committee.(AUDIO)

If approved, the bill would drop the permit age from the current age of sixteen.

Representative Rudy said the passage would place Kentucky in line with neighboring states of Tennessee, Missouri and Illinois.

Rudy also said receiving a permit at age fifteen would allow more driving practice in advance of acquiring a regular license at age sixteen.

The bill passed in the Transportation Committee and heads to the full House.

If approved, the permit age change would take place immediately.
