Students at Union City Elementary School put that practice into motion by honoring members of the Union City School Board.

School Communications Director Mike Hutchens said in conjunction with School Board Appreciation Week in Tennessee, each of the seven board members had a book donated to the elementary school library in their honor.

Additionally, the board members received handmade cards and notes designed by students and a note from Principal Allison Palmer thanking them for their endless support of Union City Schools and its students.

“The school board goes above and beyond for teachers, staff, and students, and much of our success can be attributed to them,” Palmer said following a presentation to the board on Tuesday at her school. “They are truly a unique group of people who provide us with everything we need to be successful in the education process.

“I just wanted our kids to do a little something special to let them know how much we appreciate them and their efforts to make sure that things always go smoothly. I thought donating the books to the library was a nice way to acknowledge them and let them know their efforts would always be remembered by present and future students.”

The Union City School Board is made up of Chairman Cathy Waggoner, Vice Chairman Scott Gilliam, Dr. John Clendenin, Rev. Curtis McLendon, Bedford Dunavant, Seth Rhenberg, and Linda Graham.
