Bethel University is proud to announce the receipt of a $335,450 Workforce Development Grant from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s Rural Healthcare Initiatives program. This significant funding will bolster the university’s nursing program, directly addressing the pressing need for qualified healthcare professionals in rural communities.

Dr. Delecia Parker, Director of Nursing at Bethel University, emphasized the grant’s impact, stating, “The demand for well-trained nurses in rural areas is greater than ever, and this grant will allow us to equip our students with the skills and experience needed to serve communities that rely on them.”

The Rural Healthcare Initiatives grant program aims to leverage existing healthcare training structures and expand apprenticeship and workforce development initiatives to strengthen the pipeline of healthcare professionals in rural areas. Financial support is provided to sponsoring entities to offer training, certification, and apprenticeships, while also addressing ancillary costs like transportation, childcare, and examination fees that create barriers for participants.

Dr. Joe Hames, Vice President of Health Sciences, shared his enthusiasm, saying, “We are thrilled to receive this funding from the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. It will enable us to expand our nursing program and produce graduates who are ready to make a meaningful difference in healthcare.”

The University partnered with Batton Health Solutions (batton-health.com), owned by Bethel University nursing alumni, Josefina Batton, to write and secure the grant. Bethel University remains committed to preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals through innovative education and practical training. This grant reinforces the University’s mission to support workforce development and improve healthcare access in underserved areas.
