City officials in Union City continue planning for the opening of package liquor stores in the city.
In the November General Election, Union City residents passed the Retail Package Referendum by a 2,075 to 1,388 vote.
Following the latest City Council meeting, City Manager Johnny McTurner explained the unanimous vote allowing liquor stores to conduct business in the Intermediate Business District.(AUDIO)
McTurner talked about the role of the state with the liquor stores, and the opportunity to now keep sales and taxes locally.(AUDIO)
At this time, the City Manager said there are plans for possibly four package liquor stores in Union City, with a timeline of beginning sales in April.
