Kentucky Fish and Wildlife has announced a near record harvest for deer.

During the just concluded 2024-25 season, Kentucky hunters harvested 149,868 deer.

This number is the second highest total ever recorded, trailing the 155,730 taken in 2015.

Hunters did set state records during the season, which included the most deer taken from public lands and the percentage of antlered deer harvested.

Final Kentucky Fish and Wildlife statistics show 71.6-percent of deer were taken by firearms, 11.1-percent by bow, 9.4-percent harvested with crossbows and 7.9-percent with muzzle loading firearms.

Although eight Western Kentucky counties and three north-central counties are in Chronic Wasting Disease surveillance zones, no further detection of the disease has occurred.
