The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team put up a fight Saturday afternoon at the Elam Center, but ultimately fell to Tennessee Tech, 70-59.
Despite outshooting the Golden Eagles on the game, 44.0 to 40.8, it was the second quarter that was ultimately the undoing of the Skyhawks. In the second, UT Martin went just 1-for-12 from the floor for a total of only five points, while Tennessee Tech capitalized and scored 21 points of its own.
For the fifth time this season and fourth instance in Ohio Valley Conference play, the University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball program endured an overtime contest as the Skyhawks and Tennessee Tech went five extra minutes at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. Unfortunately, UT Martin ran out of gas in the extra period as the Skyhawks fell 89-85.
UT Martin led by six points at the halftime break but overcame a five-point deficit with 4:14 to go in regulation to force overtime. The Skyhawks scored six of the first eight points in the overtime period but the Golden Eagles responded with a 10-0 run and time ran out on UT Martin’s comeback attempt.
Both Teams will be in action again on the road Thursday against SEMO.
