Tennessee ended 2024 with an unemployment rate below the U.S. rate according to data from the Tennessee Department of Labor.

December ended with an unemployment rate of 3.6 percent. The national rate was 4.1 percent. Tennessee also recorded a record low unemployment rate of three percent in May, June, and July.

Between November and December employers added 500 non-farm jobs, with the health care and social assistance sector having the biggest gains.

Over the past year non-farm employment across the state increased by 45,400 jobs.
