The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team erased a six-point halftime deficit and scored 43 points in the second half of Saturday’s 72-65 win over SIUE at the Kathleen & Tom Elam Center Saturday.
“Our kids started playing harder, I don’t know that there is any other way to say it, they just started playing harder,” said head coach Kevin McMillan after the game when asked what led to Saturday’s win.
The Skyhawks committed a season-low eight turnovers in the game, while forcing 22 SIUE turnovers. UT Martin also made 30 trips to the free throw line Saturday, converting on 22 of the 30 attempts. Another factor in the win was the 22 points off the bench for the Skyhawks, eclipsing their season average of 17.5
In the nightcap, another University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball decision came down to the wire as the Skyhawks held on for an 85-82 victory over SIUE.
The win marks the 11th contest so far this season where UT Martin’s final score was within five points or went into overtime – including seven of the eight Ohio Valley Conference decisions. The Skyhawks clawed out of a 14-point first-half deficit to lead for the entire second half before crossing the finish line victorious.
