The gavel dropped in Nashville on Tuesday for the start of the Tennessee General Assembly.
Lawmakers from both the House and Senate gathered on the House Floor to begin this year’s session.
In conducted business, Cameron Sexton of Crossville, was again elected as the Speaker of the House.
Sexton received 75 votes, while Democratic challenger Karen Camper, of Memphis, received 23.
Following the oath of office, Sexton addressed those in the chamber.(AUDIO)
Speaker Pro-Tem again went to Pat Marsh, of Shelbyville, who received 76 votes.
Democrat John Ray Clemons, of Nashville, was nominated and received 22 votes.
The Senate will meet for Organizational Day at 8:45 on Wednesday, with the House Floor Session starting at 9:00.
