The Weakley County Public Safety Board approved a resolution at their meeting yesterday that would re-classify 911 dispatchers as first responders.

The new classification will not cost the county anymore money, but will allow the dispatchers to work 12 hour shifts instead of their current 8 hours along with gaining a new title.

911 Director Christy Fulcher said the amount of calls they receive on average has increased from 31,000 to 51,000 per year.

The resolution will now go before the full county commission for approval.
