The Tennessee Department of Correction has announced the results of a comprehensive review of its lethal injection protocol.

Following the review, the Department of Correction stated they will utilize the single drug pentobarbital.

Executions were put on hold in May 0f 2022, when Governor Bill Lee ordered an independent review of the procedures with new leadership to oversee the process.

Department of Correction Commissioner Frank Strada began developing a revised protocol immediately following his appointment in January of 2023.

Strada said he was confident the lethal injection process can proceed in compliance with department policy and state laws.

The revised protocol was developed in consultation with the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office to ensure lawful and effective procedures are followed in carrying out a death sentence.
