Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has announced newly-completed upgrades of 55 miles of the Purchase and Pennyrile parkways.
In Graves, Hickman and Fulton County, a two-year project to upgrade 21 miles of the Julian Carroll-Purchase Parkway is now complete, and the highway has been designated Interstate 69 from Mayfield to Fulton.
The almost $34-million dollar interstate extension included widening culverts, modernizing guardrails and improving drainage as well as reconstructing bridges, overpasses and exits.
With construction complete, new I-69 signage went up in the final weeks of the project and the Federal Highway Administration has officially added the roadway to the National Highway System.
