A fire destroyed a Hickman home and all belongings on Thursday afternoon.
Fire Chief John Amberg said the home at 2010 Myron Cory Drive was owned by Joe and Bernita Cheirs.
Chief Amberg said firefighters were dispatched just after 4:00, after an alert neighbor saw a blaze under the carport.
The Chief said it was learned that Joe Cheirs worked a midnight shift, and was inside the residence asleep.
Cheirs was able to escape the burning home, as fire had spread through the attic and other areas.
Firefighters were on the scene a total of seven hours, with road department officials also called to the scene due to icing that had occurred on a section of the roadway from the firefighting efforts.
