The Union City Middle School boys’ basketball team continued to add to its impressive 2024-25 resume with a 55-27 romp over Gibson County Monday night.
School Communications Director Mike Hutchens said the Tornadoes improved to (11-1) with their latest triumph and have recorded nine double-digit victories.
Union City raced to a 29-8 halftime lead and never looked back Monday against the Pioneers.
Ten different Tornadoes scored in the runaway win, led by Ayden Lewis’ 12 points. Trey Kail bottomed three 3-pointers to finish with nine markers, while Brayden Marshall and B.J. Boyd finished with six apiece.
The Middle School girls were also victorious in the opener, moving to (9-3) with a close 43-40 verdict over Gibson County.
Aubri Ross scored all nine of her points in the fourth quarter to help the Twister girls rally from a slim deficit. Union City trailed 23-20 at halftime and 27-26 with three periods in the book.
McKinley Dean poured in a game-best 20 points to lead the Lady Tornadoes, and Sophie Palmer sank a pair of triples in an eight-point opening frame for the victors.
Union City’s game against Martin, initially scheduled for Thursday night, has been moved to Wednesday due to Martin’s involvement in Friday’s 3A state championship football game.
