Yarbro Farms in Martin had a ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday for their new solar energy far.
The event featured guest Weakley County Mayor Dale Hutcherson, Tennessee Department of Agriculture Assistant Commissioner Andy Holt, and State Representative Tandy Darby as guest speakers.
Mayor Hutcherson told Thunderbolt Radio about the importance of the solar farm to Yarbro Farms and to Weakley County
The USDA Rural Development invested $535,000 in grant funds for the construction of the solar array and it is expected to save the farm over $32,000 annually.
Farm owner James Yarbro said that the project involved some risk on the farm’s end, but they are happy with the result.
The Yarbro family has been farming in Weakley County since 1987 and is responsible for about 15,000 acres.
