Union City High School senior softball standout Kennedi Robinson has announced her plans to play her first two seasons after graduation at Dyersburg State Community College.
School Communications Director Mike Hutchens said Robinson, who was the top defender for the Lady Tornadoes from her outfield post last season, chose the Dyersburg State program to continue her athletic/academic career over other offers from Missouri Baptist University and Sewanee.
Her intentions after that are to earn a playing spot at a four-year institution, preferably Trevecca Nazarene University, before completing degree requirements in journalism.
“That’s what I want to do, and I believe Dyersburg State is the best place for me to start,” Robinson said after signing official paperwork surrounded by teammates, coaches, and friends.
“Coach (Taylor) Follis has a good reputation of getting his players to the next level, and I feel like I’ll get more individualized attention to build my craft and have more opportunities. The juco route is the way to go and the best plan for me, I believe.”
Dyersburg State posted a 37-17 record last season, including a 25-5 home record.
Robinson posted an on-base percentage of. 388 and hit .310 as a junior for Union City.
“I’m a little bit of a homebody right now, but I know that’ll change in a couple of years, but being close to home was important to me at this time.”
“Overall, the campus was a lot different from what I expected. It was extremely nice. And I felt safe. I think it’s going to be a great place for me to start the next chapter of my life both in softball and academically.”
