The state of Tennessee is awarding Weakley County a 1.7 million dollar connected community facilities grant.
The grant money will be used to renovate the Weakley County Chamber of Commerce building in Dresden and to construct a new building next to the Chamber for co-working space, a multipurpose room, and financial empowerment center.
Chamber CEO, Justin Crice, says the new building will be a great opportunity for people in rural areas to access broadband networks.
Construction on the new building is expected to begin in 2025.
The state’s efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure that all residents have access to high-speed internet by 2028.
