UT Martin linebacker Jaylon Sharpe has been named Big South-OVC Football Association Defensive Player of the Week.
A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Sharpe led a UT Martin defense which helped the team to its fourth straight victory and forced three turnovers in a win over Eastern Illinois.
The linebacker tallied eight tackles, returned an interception 72 yards for a touchdown and added a pass breakup and quarterback hurry in a 52-17 victory.
Sharpe leads the Big South-OVC and ranks 16th nationally with 11.0 tackles for loss.
