Union City Middle School Starts Basketball Season With Two Wins

Union City’s Middle School basketball teams opened their respective seasons in impressive fashion Thursday, winning twice at Northview.

School Communications Director Mike Hutchens said the Lady Tornadoes got 16 points from McKinley Dean to win 44-5. Dean scored 14 of her points in the first half when Union City rolled to a 27-5 lead.

The Twister girls did not allow a single point after the intermission.

Kiki Sneed scored eight points, and Annie Beth Cruce tallied six for the girls.

The Tornado boys had a big start in both halves on their way to a 57-31 triumph.

Union City built a 14-5 lead after one quarter, then expanded on a 12-point halftime advantage with a 21-11 flurry in the third period to win going away.

Ayden Lewis poured in a game-high 20 points to lead the Purple and Gold, hitting three of his four 3-pointers in the third quarter.

Kaden Robinson and Brayden Marshall finished with nine points apiece, while Zaven Thompson had eight points.

Union City made seven 3-pointers in the contest.

The Tornado squads will be back in action Monday, hosting Trenton.
