Chronic Wasting Disease Reported in Kentucky

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources has announced that the presence of chronic wasting disease in a deer from Breckinridge County deer farm.

Quarantine has been issued for the deer farm. No products or live deer will be allowed to enter or exit the farm

The case is the first confirmed case in a captive deer, according to the department.

Chronic wasting disease is a condition that affects animals in the cervid family which includes deer.

While the disease is not known to infect humans, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people do not consume meat or have close contact with animals that appear to be infected.
