Union City barely broke a sweat in moving on to the semifinals of the District 13A volleyball tournament.

School Communications Director Mike Hutchens said Union City rolled past Lake County 3-0 in the tourney quarterfinals Monday, winning 25-6, 25-3, and 25-10.

It was the ninth consecutive win and the 15th of the season for the Purple and Gold (15-4), matching the mark for the second-most wins in a season in program history.

Standing between the third-seeded Twister girls and a berth in Thursday’s championship game is No. 2 Milan, which split a pair of regular-season meetings with Union City.

The second of two tournament semifinals between Union City and the Lady Bulldogs will be played at 7:00 Tuesday night at Gibson County High School, with regular season champion Gibson County and fourth-seeded South Fulton or No. 5 Halls play in the first semi at 5:30.

The two victors will play for the 13A title Thursday at 6:00 at Gibson County, with both entries moving on to the Region 7A Tournament next week.

The Lady Tornadoes will be looking to advance to regional play for just the third time in the 13-season history of the program and for the first time since 2020.
