Detainees at the Fulton County Detention Center will now have expanded opportunities for career training.

The Fulton County Fiscal Court has announced that Rural Partners Network has received two workforce grants totaling almost $369,000.

In August, a $268,655 United States Department of Agriculture Rural Business Development Grant was obtained to renovate a former recycling facility in Hickman.

This location will become the Fulton Academy for Construction Education, which will provide accredited skill based training for Detention Center inmates.

In September, a $100,000 Workforce Invest Grant was received from the Tennessee Valley Authority, making Fulton County the newest National Center for Construction Education and Research.

Fulton County Judge-Executive Jim Martin said the grants, and Fiscal Court matching funds, will allow incarcerated individuals the opportunity to have work skill credentials needed to become productive individuals in society.
