Obion County Director of Schools, Tim Watkins, and Chastity Homra, Director of Coordinated School Health, recently visited Ridgemont Elementary to serve fresh bananas to Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd-grade classes.

School Communications Director Lauren Kendall said the bananas were on the menu due to being Mr. Watkins favorite fruit.

The visit was part of the Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Grant, written by Ms. Homra through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Throughout the school year, she will continue serving students at South Fulton Elementary, Black Oak, and Ridgemont with a fruit or vegetable snack twice a week.

The snacks can be grab-and-go, like bananas, or part of a fun lesson where the fruit or vegetable is cooked and enjoyed.

Those enjoying the banana’s on this visit was Ashley Brundige’s First Grade class at Ridgemont.
