The Leadership Innovation Team at Union City Schools got a “charge” from their first business tour of the new school year.
School Communications Director Mike Hutchens said thirteen LIT students in grades 8-thru-12 recently visited the Union City Energy Authority substation and the company’s main office to learn of the inner workings of the local utility division.
CEO Kyle Ross hosted the students, providing extensive details of the services provides to the community and service area.
Union City Energy Authority serves an estimated 6,500 customers with electric and fiber optic internet services, which includes both residential and commercial clients.
Ross emphasized the importance of education, training, and work ethic as key components in securing a job and maintaining success in the industry.
Members of the Union City Schools group include Alli Kate Frilling, Gavin Morgan, Daisy Sanchez, Silvero Acevedo-Trejo, Owen Waggoner, Isaac Hardy, Blair McKinnis, Ja’Miyah Morris, Kylee McClure, Brandon Najeme, Alana Morton, Kipton Powers.
Union City Schools Career Counselor Lisa Carson and high school Guidance Counselor Susan Searcy served as chaperons for the tour, along with Obion County Joint Economic Development Cooperation CEO Lindsay Theobald and Chamber of Commerce Community Relations Director Rachael McKinney.
The LIT mission is to hear young voices by developing leadership, collaboration, and communication skills. Student members will be provided an opportunity to promote skills while developing relationships in the world of work through networking, business exposure, and professional development.
